Observatories
My research in observational cosmology uses a number of telescopes and
instruments, including:
-
The Hubble Space Telescope
-
The Chandra X-ray Observatory
-
Keck Observatory,
on the extinct volcano Mauna Kea, on the big island of Hawaii
- Gemini Observatory
-
GMOS (Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph)
-
Palomar Observatory, on Palomar Mountain (NE of San Diego)
-
The Very
Large Array (VLA), an array of 27 radio telescopes on the Plains of St.
Augustine, east of Socorro, New Mexico.
-
The Very Long Baseline
Array (VLBA), with 10 radio telescopes across the US,
from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, to Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii.
- The Owens Valley Radio Observatory
(OVRO) in the Owens Valley (between the Sierra Nevada and the White Mountains)
-
MERLIN:
The Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network, an array six radio
telescopes across the UK.
